A Day in Nature

In one of the first classes of my English course we were asked to write a journal about a moment we have had in nature. Even in the winter I am outside nearly as much as I am in, I have three horses which I try to see as much as I can.
One day about a year ago I went out to my barn alone, it was right after a big snow that left almost two feet of snow. I decided to take my new young horse out into the woods for the first time, we climbed up a hill into the woods where the sun shined through the trees and made the snow glitter. It was so quiet that only a few birds and the sound of my horse's hooves crunching through the snow could be heard. You feel like you are in your own world, you forget about responsibilities and the rest of the world and become completely involved into your surroundings. At one point we reach the cliff where the hill falls away to the valley of the East Fork River and you can see all the way into the park from the edge. Both my horse and I just gazed into the valley that had become a winter wonderland with fresh snow. I was able to snap a picture between my horse's ears. What made this little adventure even more special was that I had only had my new horse for a month or two when we did this and being only three this was his first time wondering through the woods. It seemed to be a real bonding experience for the both of us to just be alone with nature to figure each other out.
